SiliCon Wants You!

As with all fan-run conventions, SIliCon 2009 is an all-volunteer organization. We have some staff positions open and we can always use extra help during the convention. Come find out what happens in the planning stages. Get the news before anyone else does. Meet like-minded people while helping organize the convention. And have a lot of fun while you help us!

Volunteers basically come in two flavors - Mercury Runners and Staff. Both types get discounted full membership rates of $30 for all three days.

MERCURY RUNNERS can earn community graduation credits. If you work before or after the convention helping set up and tear down the convention you earn double (yes double) credits. If you fulfill your hours you have the option of either having your membership fee refunded or rolling it over to cover next year's membership fee.

If duct tape is what holds the universe together, then Mercury Runners are the ones that slap it in place. They're messengers, badge-checkers, tote-and-carriers, and oodles of other things. Can you follow instructions? Are you energetic? Are you at least 14 years old? You just might be the right stuff.

STAFF

On the other hand, if you've got useful skills, you're 18 or older, and you're itching for a shot at the major leagues, we have various positions open as official staff members. These include assorted department openings, or if you're just starting out, lower positions as department seconds or apprentices. These represent long-term commitments throughout the year, as you'll be contributing to the actual assembly and maintenance of the convention itself. There are regular meetings between conventions (at least once a month), plans and projects to develop and execute, resources to organize, staff to recruit, etc.

Once you've been approved as a volunteer, please download and fill out the form below, (You only need to fill out one copy.) You'll be given instructions as to where to send it (or bring it, as the case may be.) If you're under 18, you'll need an approval signature from your parent or legal guardian on the form.

AMONG OUR CURRENT STAFF OPENINGS...

Info Desk - SiliCon is looking for people to help man the Information Desk at the convention. We need people who like to be in the middle of things, enjoy helping other people, and are patient and unflappable. Knowledge of the DoubleTree Inn layout would be a "big plus."

Staff Feed - SiliCon is looking for people to help keep our volunteers and guests well nourished so they don't collapse and miss out on any fun things. This mostly involves delivering food to variou departments or keeping staff provision maintained.

Registration - SiliCon is looking for people to help our fans check in and get their badges. Experience in data entry is helpful but you don't have to be a gazillion words a minute typist. Our registration program is very user friendly.
